I wrote this song during my first extended stay in Washington's Methow Valley. It was inspired in part by the Rilke poem: “We need, in love, to practice only this: letting each other go. For holding on comes easily; we do not need to learn it.”
All my thanks to the wonderful contributors to this track who made it all possible: Krista Detor (harmonies); Jason Wilber (electric guitar); Steve Mascari (bass), Ben Lumsdaine (drums); Matthew Zelenin (hammond organ); David Weber of Airtime Recording Studios (mixing/mastering/production); Anna Briggs (illustration); and Karla Holman (design). And special thanks 4Culture and the 118+ Kickstarter backers of this project!
“Cedar Tree Boy” is the third single from my forthcoming album PINK STONE: SONGS FROM MOOSE LODGE, a collection of songs written over the course of several years in Washington’s Methow Valley, traditional territory of the mətxʷú people.
