July 13 was the ten-year anniversary of my first album, Bone Nest. To honor the occasion, I spent two weeks walking back through the stories behind the songs and the making of the album.

“It’s like walking through a forest on a Sunday morning, barefoot,” described one girl over dinner. “But with moss; there’s moss everywhere,” chimed in a man across the table. Another woman nodded in agreement, “and sap, the light is reflecting off the sap.” When you ask fans to describe Wren’s music, you rarely get a one-word answer; more often, you will get an experience.
I am overcome with sorrow to share the news of the passing of a beloved elder and mentor, world flute musician Gary Stroutsos. I am sure there will be official eulogies and obituaries to come, written by people more qualified than I. So today I just want to share a bit about the Gary I knew and loved.
